Newham Swords set a new club record at the weekend when it won a total of ten medals at the Eastern Region Qualifier which took place at Brentwood School.
All medallists have now qualified for the British Youth Championships which will take place in January 2009.
Top honours went to :
Rachel Shaw and Ruhi Singa (who came 5th and 7th respectively in the Girls U12); Ife Kubler, Hannah Lyndsay and Jasmine MacFarlane (who took gold, bronze and bronze respectively in the Girls U14); Kamal Minott, Florian Kabasuabo and Alan Lozovik (who took gold, bronze and 7th place respectively in the Boys U12);
Raj Rai, Jai Birch and Robbie Shaw who took bronze, 5th and 17th place respectively in the Boys U14); Amol Rattan and Alex Savin (who took silver and bronze respectively in the Boys U16) and Don Isiko and Boris Kabasuabo (who both took a bronze in the Boys U18).
“What a fantastic performance from the Newham fencers”, said Newham Swords Team Manager, Linda Strachan.
“Not only have they set a new club record by winning ten medals in one single day, but they have also set a new national record by being the only club in England to have ten fencers qualified for the British Youth Championship Finals, taking place in January.
